About Zero-Search-Time ...Continued |
 |
Schorer's method employs a rigorous task-oriented approach, combined with a new application of an old idea in computer science, namely, the idea of the "abstract data type". The two together define the structure of the documentation itself, and of entries in the index. The result is that users need only follow one simple rule to find the information they want. No searching, no guessing, no "figuring out" where to look. The method works on any software product. Documentation can be created at least as fast using the new method as using existing methods (or, more accurately, non-methods). No new software is required for online implementations. Any existing Help mechanism that includes an index, e.g., a Windows Help facility, is all that's needed.
